Proms are one of the highlights of high school life. It’s where you can dress up, experience your first formal dinner date, and make lots of memories with your friends or significant other. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event that you will remember even years after you graduate.

And because there’s no take-twos in a prom, you’ll want to make sure everything is perfect. To do that, here are some tips to help you prepare for it no matter what your gender preference is.

Find the Right Gown or Tuxedo

It’s probably already given that a prom is a formal event. Thus, you’ll need to wear something formal that fits the event. However, some don’t know when’s the right time to fight the right gown or tuxedo.

Prom dresses and tuxedos take weeks to finish, depending on their design. You also need to allow time for alterations to make sure that your dress fits you perfectly. Thus, make sure to choose and purchase your attire at least four weeks before your prom.

Practice Your Hair and Makeup or Look for a Pro

If you choose to do your hair and makeup on your own, it’s best that you practice doing your look a few weeks or days before the event. In this way, you’ll have more time to get to know what look suits you best. Doing so will also help you find the right products for your skin type and skin tone.

If you’re not used to makeup, it’s best to leave the work in the hands of professionals. However, ensure to look and book for a hairstylist or a makeup artist a month before your prom. In this way, you can arrange for a makeup trial to find out what works best for you.

Test Your Selfie

Pictures last a lifetime. You don’t want to be haunted by your prom photos wearing bad makeup when you get older, right? So if you’re doing your own makeup, make sure to run a test selfie too. This way, you’ll know how your makeup would look like in pictures with your makeup. This also helps you determine if you need to add more or not.

Get Your Nails Done

To complete your look, make sure that you get your nails done too. However, it would be better if you get it done a day or two before your prom. In this way, you don’t damage them. Getting a manicure at least a day before your prom also gives your polish more time to dry. Plus, you’ll have more time to re-do it if it didn’t turn out how you want it to be.

Take Care of Your Skin

No matter what your gender preference is and whether or not you’re going to prom, caring for your skin is important. This will not just benefit you in the long run but it will also help make your makeup flawless.

It’s better to start a skincare routine at least two months before your prom. This leaves your skin more time to get used to the products. Doing so also gives you enough time to find the right products for your skin.

You can also consult a dermatologist months before if you have skin issues. Your dermatologist can recommend products or facial treatments that suit your skin more.

Purchase a Corsage

If you’re a guy and you’re going to the prom with a date, make sure to purchase a corsage ahead. Some take weeks to make so it would be better if you order a corsage two weeks before.

Some girls want to keep their dress a surprise, though. If your significant other does too, choose a white corsage instead. This color is the safest option as it can fit any dress design.

Rent a Car Ahead

Transporting to your prom’s venue can be a hassle if you’re wearing formal attire. Especially if you’re wearing a long gown, it’s hard to take the bus or the subway. Thus, if you don’t have your own car, it’s safer to rent one.

But before you close a deal, give yourself more time to compare your choices. Two weeks before your prom, finalize your reservation.

You can also pool your resources with your friends or other couples. This will help cut your expenses if you’re on a budget. Sharing a car with your friends would be a fun experience too.

Prepare Your Bag

A clutch looks great with a formal dress. However, it only lets you pack a few items. To make sure that you don’t forget anything, make a list of the things that you need to bring. Items such as your prom ticket, cellphone, ID, and your handy makeup are a must.

If possible, don’t forget to pack safety pins, adhesive bandages, bobby pins, and extra money too. These items may not look like you need them but these are also important as it can save you from wardrobe malfunctions too.

Eat

As you start your day, make sure that you eat too. Special occasions like this can make you feel excited and anxious at the same time, making you feel the need to skip your meals but don’t. Ensure that you eat well throughout the day so you will have more energy during your prom.

Go to Bed Early

Proms sure is exciting. Thus, you might feel like you just want to stay up all night because of excitement. But don’t stay up late. Try to relax and sleep early so you’ll have more energy for what’s ahead. Doing so will also make you feel fresh when you wake up. You don’t want to get dark eyebags on the day of your prom, right?

Prom is going to be one of the most exciting parts of your life you shouldn’t miss out on it. It’s definitely going to be more enjoyable if you are taking someone you particularly like to prom. Of course, with proper preparation comes great results. Just make sure not to rush things as the days leading up to your prom needs to be fun as well.
