The 73rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony was held tonight (10th January), honoring the best in film and American television of 2015. The show was hosted by comedian and actor Ricky Gervais, it will be his fourth time as the master of ceremonies for the event.
Some of the presenters were Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Katy Perry, Eddie Redmayne, Kurt Russell, Kate Bosworth, Sophia Bush, Matt Damon, Chris Evans, Will Ferrell, designer Tom Ford, Tom Hanks, Jonah Hill, John Krasinski, Katy Perry, Amy Schumer and Viola Davis.
As we previously reported, America Ferrera, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid announced the nominees at the Beverly Hilton Hotel (10th December 2015). The Hollywood Foreign Press gave the awards to winners in 25 categories — 14 in film and 11 in television.
The movies “Carol,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Revenant,” “Room” and “Spotlight” were among the movies that earned top honors as nominees in the drama motion picture category. Rounding out the comedy picture category were “The Big Short,” “Joy,” “The Martian,” “Spy” and “Trainwreck.”
The top television nominees were “Empire,” “Game of Thrones,” “Mr. Robot,” “Narcos” and “Outlander” for drama series; and “Casual,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” “Orange Is the New Black,” “Silicon Valley,” “Transparent” and “Veep” for comedy series.
Leonardo DiCaprio won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his work in The Revenant, which also won Best Picture – Drama. While accepting the award, 41-year-old actor made a political statement that involved the themes of the film: “Lastly, I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world. It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests and people that are out there to exploit them. It is time that we heard your voice and protected this planet for future generations!”
