French luxury fashion house Chanel presented their highly anticipated Haute Couture spring 2017 collection today at the Grand Palais in Paris.
Creative director Karl Lagerfeld emphasized the notion of elegance smothered in surrealism. The set was reinterpreting the mirrored staircase at Coco Chanel’s atelier. Monumental vases of lilies framed the decor as the models made their way around the redressed Grand Palais.
In the first part of the collection, Lagerfeld offered the new interpretation of the suit drew inspiration from the sculptures of Giacometti, in particular the 1927 work La Femme cuillère, a product simultaneously of tribal art and abstraction.
The fashion show ended with a flurry of evening dresses and outfits, abundantly adorned with sequins and ostrich feathers. Lily Rose Depp closed the show in lavish soft pink gown and matching belt.
