French fashion designer Roland Mouret presented his new fall/winter 2014 collection at Paris fashion week fall 2014. This time he focused on the mixing of different textures, patterns and colors, all of which resulted in pieces looking like collages with origami bi colored, pencil silhouettes, strategic cuts and houndstooth prints. When asked to describe this collection, Mouret stated: “I have reached that exact point in my life where I am doing what I feel passionate about, rather than what I feel is expected of me. I am a designer, not an artisan. A preserver of my own past, my identity, which is partly heritage, partly upbringing, but mostly the sum of the choices we make in life. My talent has become my own culture, a kind of personal legacy. I must define it each season in order to preserve it. It took me over fifty years to get here today, this morning, in this abandoned bank in Paris. And what have I learnt? Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly. This season, for me, is not about presenting a look or an outfit, but rather about advancing my skills, the thing I have distilled over decades into something close to a definition of myself. An expression of technique and artistry of who I am and how far I have travelled.”
