American fashion designer Zac Posen presented his Resort 2015 collection in which he combined his artisanal craftsmanship with a dexterous showcase of daywear and separates. He stated: “There is a very serendipitous quality to this collection. With its sophisticated palette, sculptural manipulation of luxurious materials, and skillful tailoring applied to tech fabrications, it transcends trends without looking away from what women desire. We have amplified the daywear offering, while preserving the couture approach required by our clothing.” For day he showcased a full spectrum of the modern woman’s wardrobe. Tech fabrics, such as an organza-lined Neoprene, are presented with sartorial skills and are cut into a cadre of items: an above-the-knee flared skirt with a matching cropped jacket is juxtaposed to a day dress and an A-line coat that frames a pant suit in a crisp ottoman. For evening looks he created column gowns, cut with a near-technical precision to an elegant, elongating effect. Poetic details—subtle draping, low backlines, and fluttering capelets—add a note of romantic softness to the rigorous construction of the garments and are counterbalanced by the materials in which they are engineered. Posen’s signature full-skirted gowns showcase the designer’s ability to achieve operatic heights of glamour, even when manipulating utilitarian materials, such as ottoman and crepe, into architectural and elliptical lines. The richness and volume of the dresses are balanced by clean geometric necklines, and a refined palette of blonde, inky, and jewel-box shades.
