French luxury fashion house Givenchy presented their new spring/summer 2016 collection last night for the first time in New York, as a part of the New York fashion week spring 2016. Wanting to convert Haute Couture in Prêt-à-Porter collection, creative director Ricardo Tisci made this the most anticipated collection at NYFW. Since androgyny is certainly not a passing trend in fashion, Tisci explored male and female sensuality.
Remembering the 14th anniversary of 9/11, the stage was set by performance artist Marina Abramovic, who made stark set of walls made of recycled metal and wooden shards, while the huge crowd was seated on stacked wooden pallets and benches for the show, which Marina described as being “about forgiveness, inclusivity, new life, hope, and above all, love”. Tisci stated: “One big memory of New York was the freedom. The fact that you could say, you could dress, you could share with anybody whatever you wanted. When I arrived at the airport, I always had in my head, “I’m going to live in this country one day.”‘
Of course if all of that was not enough, Tisci tapped supermodel cast made of model veterans such as Raquel Zimmerman, Frankie Rayder, Mariacarla Boscono, Lakshmi Menon to walk the show together with current big model names such as Candice Swanepoel (who took a tumble on the runway after getting her feat tangled up in her shoes), Kendall Jenner, Liu Wen and Joan Smalls.
